I am deeply concerned by Sadiq Khan's plans to dramatically extend the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) later this year.
I am also extremely disappointed that when a vote was held in November, all other parties voted in favour of the ULEZ expansion, including the Lib Dems, Labour, and Greens.
Only the Conservatives voted against Sadiq Khan's plans.
I have previously written to Sadiq Khan setting out my opposition to his ULEZ expansion, and Croydon's Conservative-led Council submitted a detailed response to the TfL consultation making the case against expansion.
For some time, Croydon's Conservative-led Council has been working in collaboration with other Councils such as Bexley, Bromley, Hillingdon and Harrow to resist this decision and mitigate against its impact on Croydon’s residents.
Despite the Lib Dems, Greens and Labour unanimously backing Sadiq Khan in November, you can rest assured that Croydon Council's will resist the the use of Council infrastructure for the ULEZ camera network. Although Sadiq Khan does have the power to overrule us, we are clear that he should listen to Croydon and rethink his plans.
Please tell me what you think of my stand on ULEZ expansion by filling in my survey below.
With best wishes,
Jason Perry
Conservative Mayor of Croydon
