Over the past week Croydon has seen an outpouring of respect, admiration and reflection for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign. As our monarch for seven decades, she has been a constant and reassuring presence in the lives of many people.
That we have seen so many residents of all ages come through the doors of Braithwaite Hall this week to sign our Book of Condolence shows the impact her passing has had locally, with many more heading to London to pay their respects at the lying-in-state.
On Sunday we will honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a memorial service at Croydon Minster together with residents, community and faith groups. This event is free and open to all but with limited seating we are asking that residents sign up for tickets online – if you are interested in attending, please do so early to secure your place.
A National Moment of Reflection will also take place at 8pm on Sunday at which everyone is invited to take part in a one-minute silence. Whether you reflect privately at home, out on your doorstep with neighbours, or at any locally arranged events, this is a chance to join the nation in collective remembrance of our remarkable Queen and her unprecedented achievements.
The entire country will also mark the State Funeral on Monday, with a national Bank Holiday declared by His Majesty King Charles III. Some council services will be reduced or closed over the bank holiday – more information on key changes is available on our website.
