Mayor Jason Perry visited Harris Invictus Academy today to meet with Headteachers and leaders from Harris Invictus Academy, Saffron Valley Collegiate, Norbury High School for Girls and Shirley High School.
Discussions with school leaders focused on their experiences of working with Croydon’s young people and on how to tackle the serious youth violence which has shaken local communities.
Multi-agency working will be important to ensure community partners work closely to support the great work that schools are doing to ensure our students are given the opportunity to achieve their aspirations.
In his first weeks in office, Mayor Perry has already met with the local police and community leaders who are committed to working together to prevent further violence and deaths.
During his time at Harris Invictus Academy, Mayor Perry was also hosted by pupils who led him on a tour of the school.
Speaking after his visit, Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon said:
“Our communities are home to more under-18s than anywhere else in London and the council and all its partners have an important role in supporting our young people to stay safe and well. Our schools are doing great work in supporting their students and being active parts of our local communities.
“Increased partnership working is going to be key and I am grateful for the views shared today, reinforcing the need to continue to strengthen early intervention measures. We also need to celebrate our students, their achievements and the positive contributions they make to our communities.”
