On Thursday, we witnessed a truly historic event in Croydon, when 80% of those voting chose to vote for a change and move to a Directly Elected Mayor, rejecting Labour's broken management of our Borough. Soon afterwards, we held a General Meeting of the Croydon Conservatives to vote on who should be our candidate for Croydon Mayor in 2022. All members were invited to attend the meeting in order to listen to speeches from the three candidates, and ask them questions about their skills and policies.
We are proud to announce that our Conservative Candidate to be the first ever Directly Elected Mayor of Croydon will be Cllr. Jason Perry.
Jason Perry is a Croydonian, born and bred. He currently lives in South Croydon with his family and serves as a ward Councillor there. He has deep roots in all parts of the Borough, spending his youth shopping in both North End and Thornton Heath High Street, borrowing books from Purley and Upper Norwood Libraries, as well as going to school in Coulsdon. Jason is standing to be Mayor because Croydon is his home, and he cares deeply about its future.
Jason runs a local small business, which has given him real experience in managing budgets, hiring fantastic teams and managing the logistics of supply and demand - three things which Croydon Labour seem never to have grasped.
Cllr. Jason Perry said on his selection:
Croydon is a large and diverse Borough with a rich history, containing areas of deprivation and affluence, wonderful green spaces and sites of historic interest. But the current failing Labour Council is not giving Croydon the leadership it deserves.
I have a positive vision of a Croydon where the Council listens to residents. Where your council taxes are spent wisely by a Council that cares. I want people to feel proud when they say that they are from Croydon. As Mayor, I will recognise Croydon's diverse and individual communities, listen to them and focus on providing the strategies and policies which they want to enable their communities to flourish. Never again will whole communities feel taken for granted, forgotten or held back.
Our 2022 campaign to take back the Town Hall and fight for this vision now begins in earnest! Over the coming months, I'll be out across Croydon so you can get to know me, and I'll be emailing you so that you can find out more about what I believe in, and my plan for Croydon.
